Endoplasmic Reticulum

The ensmembrane carries out variety of task in cells. Endomembrane includes endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi appartus, lysosomes, vacuoles, and the plasma membrane.

Endoplasmic reticulum or the ER is an exstensive network of membranes that account half of the cell. The network are made of cisternae or membranous sacs. The ER mebrane is separated from the interna;l compartment called the ER lumen. There are two district in the ER: Smooth ER and Rough ER. Smooth ER does not contain ribosomes but rough Er does. The smooth ER synthesize lipids, metabolism of carbohydrates, stores calcium ions and detoxification. Enzyme help smooth ER detoxify drugs in the liver. In the tough ER, ribosomes produce protein that help attach itself to the ER. Most of the proteins are glycoproteins that helps attach to the protein in the ER by specialized molecules built into the ER membrane. After the secretory proteins are formed the ER membrane keeps them separate from theprotein that are produced by free ribosomes. The secretory protein wraps the ER membrane of vesicles called transitional ER.  The rough ER help the cell grow by adding proteis to the cells.
