Peroxisome

Picture
The peroxisomes specialize metabolic compartment bound by a signle membrane. It contain enzymes that transfer hydrogen from various substrates to oxygen. Some peroxisome uses the oxygen to break down fatty acids down into smaller molecules that can be transported to the mitochondria. Specialized peroxisomes are called glyoxysomes that are found in fat storing tissues of plant seeds. It help initiate the convesion of fatty acids to sugar. Peroxisome does not bud from the endomembrane system. They grow by incorporating proteins that are made primarily in the cytosol, lipds made from ER, and lipids that are synthesized within the peroxisome.
